
Louisville Gears Up for Florida's Tom Jones Invitational

The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the Tom Jones Invitational which will take place April 16-17 on Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.
"This will be an outstanding opportunity for each of our squads to see exactly where we are at against an outstanding competitive field in Gainesville," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. I'm looking forward to seeing who steps forward this weekend as the championship segment of our schedule is quickly approaching."

In last weekend's Tennessee Relays, Louisville posted seven wins, with the men taking home the gold in four events and the women claiming three.
For the women, Purity Sanga won the 10,000m while Dorcas Wasike finished second and Ivine Chemutai placed third as the Cardinals swept the top three spots in the event. It marked Sanga's second win of the outdoor season, after taking the 1500m at the Louisville Invitational.
Alexis Gibbons took first place in the long jump with a leap of 6.22m (20-05.00). She now has two long jump wins this season and a runner-up finish.
Gabriela Leon picked up her second straight in the pole vault last week, clearing 4.16m (13-7.75). She previously tied the school record with a vault of 4.27m (14-0) in the Louisville Invitational.
On the men's side, Sterling Warner-Savage clocked a personal-best time of 10.41 to take the 100m dash. He now stands second on Louisville's all-time list. The win marked his second of the 2021 outdoor season after claiming the 200m with a time of 21.57 at the Louisville Invitational.
Competing in his first 3000m steeplechase of the 2021 season, Albert Kosgei won the event with a time of 8:52.
Jeremiah Willis led the way in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 7.69m (25-02.75). The win was his second of the season after winning in the event at the Louisville Invitational and placing second at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic.
Adar Sheere has collected two wins in the discus throw, most recently with a season-best mark of 57.29m (187-11) which stands seventh on Louisville's all-time list.

• Gabriela Leon's pole vault of 4.27m (14-0) at the Louisville Invitational is tied for 10th in the nation while Aliyah Welter's vault of 4.17m (13-8.25) stands at No. 21.
• Purity Sanga's 10,000m time of 34:05.91 is No. 25
Men
• In the 3000 steeplechase, Albert Kosgei stands at No. 11 with a time of 8:52.73 attained on April 8 in the Tennessee Relays.
• Adar Sheere's discus throw mark of 57.29m (187-11) at the Tennessee Relays is currently No. 16 in the nation.
• Trey Allen's clearance of 2.17m (7-1.5) in the Louisville Invitational is tied for 16th nationally
• Jeremiah Willis' long jump of 7.69m (25-2.75) in the Tennessee Relays stands tied for 24th nationally.
