Cardinals Tie for Sixth at the Trinity Forest Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jiri Zuska and Matthias Schmid posted final rounds under-par to lead the University of Louisville's men's golf team into a tie for sixth place at the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday.

As a team, the Cardinals posted an even-par final round of 284 to tie with UMKC for sixth place. The Cardinals displayed improvement in each round, improving by six shots on Monday and eight shots on Tuesday. UofL finished at 22-over-par after firing a 298-292-284=874. SMU ran away with the tournament title by shooting an 17-under-par.

Both Zuska and Schmid finished the tournament at 2-over-par, but it was Zuska who enjoyed the round of the day for the Cardinals. The junior carded a 2-under-par 69 to finish in a tie for 11th overall after shooting 73-73-69=215 for the tournament. Starting on the back nine, Zuska was 1-over-par on the first nine holes, but responded by shooting a 3-under on the front. He closed his round by registering birdies on three of his final four holes. The 11th-place finish was his best this spring.

After opening with a 76 on Sunday, Schmid continued to play better throughout his round, culminating with a 1-under-par 70 on Tuesday. He also tied for 11th after he shot 76-69-70=215. He opened the round by shooting a 2-under-par on his first nine holes and recorded a birdie and a pair of bogeys on his final nine holes to record his third-straight top-15 finish.

John Murphy tied for 42nd after he carded rounds of 73-75-76=224, while Trevor Johnson finished in a tie for 46th after he shot 76-75-74=225.

Max Kennedy showed the biggest improvement on Tuesday. After firing an 81 and 75 in the first rounds, the freshman responded by shooting an even-par 71 to tie for 54th. During his round, the Ireland native registered three bogeys and three birdies.

The Cardinals return to action on March 14-16 at the General Hackler Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
