Schmid Shoots 2-Under Par During the Second Round of the Trinity Forest Invitational
March 08, 2021 | Men's Golf
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Matthias Schmid of the University of Louisville men's golf team shot a 2-under-par (69) to lead the Cardinals on the second day of the Trinity Forest Invitational on Monday afternoon.
Entering the round in a tie for 11th place, the Cardinals moved up three positions to eighth after shooting an 8-over-par 292 – a six-shot improvement from Monday.
After firing an uncharacteristic 76 on Monday, senior Matthias Schmid fired a 69 to move all the way into a tie for 15th place after two rounds of action. He was one of only three players in the tournament to shoot a round in the 60s in Monday's round.
Fresh off an appearance in last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, Schmid responded with one of his best rounds of the spring. He opened play with a birdie on No. 12 to shoot even-par on his first nine holes. He was stellar on his second nine holes by registering three birdies to shoot a 2-under-par 34.
Jiri Zuska moved into a tie for 18th place after matching his round of 73 from Sunday. The junior shot 1-over-par on each side and recorded two birdies for his round.
John Murphy, who posted one of the top rounds for the Cardinals on Sunday, followed up his 73 with a 75 on Monday to slip into a tie for 29th, while Trevor Johnson also shot a 75 to drop into a tie for 45th.
Freshman Max Kennedy rebounded from his opening round 81 to also shoot a 75 to sit in a tie for 63rd place entering Tuesday's final round.
The Cardinals begin third-round action at 9:30 EST, pairing off with Abilene Christian and UMKC.
