Schmid and Zuska Fire Rounds of 71 to Lead Cards at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Matthias Schmid and Jiri Zuska each fired final rounds of 1-under-par on Monday as the University of Louisville men's golf team finished seventh at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Louisville shot 9-over-par over the two days (289-293-291=873) to place seventh at the par-72, 6,966-yard course. Fellow Atlantic Coast Conference foe Clemson won the tournament at 19-under-par and North Florida finished second at 8-under-par.
Schmid and Zuska each shot 71 on Monday to finish in the top 30 overall for the Cards.
Schmid, one of the nation's top performers, ended the tournament in a tie for 14th place after shooting 73-73-71=217 to finish at 1-over-par over the two days in Florida. The senior posted three birdies during his round and ended the day with an eagle at the par 5 No. 18. It was the 25th top-15 finish during his four-year career.
Zuska closed the tournament in a tie for 27th place after carding a 4-over-par 220, shooting 74-75-71=220. After opening Sunday at 5-over-par, Zuska came back with a 71 on Monday. The junior recorded nine consecutive pars to open his round before opening the back nine with two consecutive birdies on No. 10 and No. 11.
John Murphy shot a 5-over-par 221 to finish in a tie for 32nd place. He opened play on Sunday by shooting two rounds of even-par, but closed the Monday with a 77. Trevor Johnson tied for 34th after he carded a 70-73-229=222, while Devin Morley tied for 73rd after he fired an even-par 72 on Monday.
Competing as an individual, Hugh O'Hare tied for 69th after he shot a 15-over-par 73-82-76=231.
The Cardinals return to the course on April 9-11 at the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas.
