No. 45-ranked Louisville Set to Host Xavier
March 24, 2021 | Women's Tennis
Simova and Neely ranked No. 24 in doubles/ Andrea Di Palma breaks in at No. 82 in singles.
After traveling to a pair of ranked opponents last weekend, University of Louisville's women's tennis team will be back in action at home on Friday to take on Xavier at noon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Â
The Cardinals have won nine out of the 10 all-time meetings with the Musketeers, including an unblemished mark at home, with the lone loss dating back to the first matchup between the two programs in 2001.
Â
Weather permitting, Friday's action will be the first time this season that the women's program has competed on outdoor courts at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. With this possibility, the Louisville Athletic Department has released a statement concerning its attendance policy for outdoor matches. Attendance for outdoor matches at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center is restricted to mainly player and staff pass list. However, a very limited number of seats will be available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis. All fans are required to have their temperatures taken at the entrance, wear masks and practice social distancing. Safe seating areas in the bleachers will be clearly marked. Admittance to the indoor facility is not permitted. Â If the match is moved to the indoor facility, the attendance policy will revert to the previous guidelines for indoor matches that prohibit any outside spectators
Â
Louisville (6-9, 3-7 ACC) looks to recapture momentum in their final two non-conference matches after a tough start to ACC play. The Cardinals have remained tough out at home, boasting a 4-2 mark in Louisville. Raven Neely and Tatiana Simova lead the team with a 10-4 doubles record, after handling Miami's No.2 duo 6-4 last time out. The pair just broke into the rankings at No. 24. Â Chelsea Sawyer secured the Cardinal's lone point at Miami, improving on her team-high nine singles wins this season.Â
Â
Xavier (9-1) enters the contest riding a six-match winning streak after securing two more wins over Dayton and cross-town rival Cincinnati last weekend. The No. 123-ranked sophomore, Kat Lyman, remained undefeated in singles action, recording her tenth win of the season after defeating Cincinnati in straight sets at No.2. Anna Roggenburk secured the match win for the Musketeers, taking court three after dropping the initial set. The comeback win marked the sophomore's fifth straight singles victory and extended her record to 8-1 for the year.Â
Â
Following Friday's match, Louisville will close out their non-conference slate with a rescheduled match with UT Martin on Mar.30.Â
