Cardinals Wrap Up Doc Hale Elite, Roth Sets School Indoor Pole Vault Record
February 06, 2021 | Track & Field
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior Sean Roth's new school indoor pole vault record and eight Cardinals recorded personal bests as the University of Louisville men's and women's track teams wrapped up the Doc Hale Elite Saturday afternoon at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House.
"Both squads had a really solid second day of competition," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "We had many improvements but the pole vault certainly stands out to me as a highlight. Coach Rasnick has done a great job of building that group up and there is big things coming. To have three women over 13'7 in the same competition along with watching Sean Roth shatter the school record on the men's side made it an exciting day."
For the men, Roth posted his first win of the season with a career-best mark of 5.31m (17-5) in the pole vault, which also broke the school record of 5.15m, set in 2017. Additionally, Roth's clearance set a national Irish Indoor record. Freshman Zack Frye also turned in his career-best of 4.95 to finish in fifth place.
The Cardinals took two of the top four spots in the high jump with sophomore Trey Allen finishing third after clearing 2.08m (6-9.75). Sophomore Jonah Hyde's season-best mark of 2.03m (6-8) was good for fourth place.
Sophomore Isiah Pantiere ran a personal-best 21.57 to finish fourth in the 200m while freshman Tkai Wade also posted his career-best time of 22.335 for an 11th place showing in the event.
In the shot put, senior Cade Richeson's season-best mark of 17.37m (57-0) gave him a fifth-place finish.
On the women's side, three Cardinals were among the top five in the pole vault with junior Aliyah Welter personal-best mark of 4.14m (13-7) giving her a fourth-place finish. Senior Gabriela Leon and sophomore Auriane Viola each cleared 4.14m (13-7) to finish fifth. The mark was a season best for Viola.
Junior Emma Bryant logged a career-best time of 4:52.73 to finish fourth in the 1 mile.
Freshman Ariel Lawrence lead a trio of Cardinals in the triple jump with a leap of 11.84m (38-10.25) for a seventh-place finish.
Addie Wanner's season-best mark of 1.66m (5-5.25) gave the junior a seventh-place finish in the high jump.
Senior Victoria Farley posted her best mark of the season at 14.14m (46-4.75) for a fifth-place showing in the shot put.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday, Feb. 12 when they travel to Nashville for the Music City Challenge.
