Schmid Helps Cardinals Tie for Fourth at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Matthias Schmid carded a 7-under-par 209 to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team to a fourth finish place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala., on Tuesday.
As a team, the Cardinals shot 280-285-285=850 to finish at 14-under-par for the three-day event, finishing two shots behind third place Kent State. Illinois ran away with the tournament by shooting a 37-under-par.
Schmid tied for third overall by firing 68-71-70=209. He closed the tournament by shooting a 2-under-par 70. The senior played a bogey-free front nine and finished the back nine with three birdies.
Senior John Murphy tied for seventh after he shot 70-69-71=210 for his best finish of the spring. The fifth-year player recorded four birdies for his round, including consecutive birdies on No. 2 and No. 3.
Junior Jiri Zuska was the third player to finish under par by carding a 70-71-72=213. He tied for 17th after closing his third round at even-par.
Max Kennedy finished in a tie for 39th in his first collegiate event after shooting a 3-over-par 72-75-72=219, while Trevor Johnson tied for 67th after his 75-74-79=228.
The Cardinals return to the course on March 7-9 at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
