LOS ANGELES, Calif. – University of Louisville guard Carlik Jones has been named to the Late Season Top 20 Watch List for the John R. Wooden Award® presented by Wendy's, announced today by The Los Angeles Athletic Club.
Named to The Sporting News Mid-Season All-America team last week, Jones ranks fourth in the ACC in scoring (17.4 ppg) and third in assists (4.9 apg). Jones has 97 career double-figure scoring efforts, including the last 37 consecutive games (all 14 at UofL). He has 30 career games with 20 or more points (four of the last eight).
Jones ranks 12th in the nation in career assists among active players with 537 (68 at Louisville, 469 at Radford) and is 13th nationally among active career scorers with 1,796 points (244 at UofL, 1,552 at Radford). He needs four points for 1,800 in his career. He has collected 15 steals in the last seven games.
Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2020-21 season thus far, the list comprises of 20 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor.
Jones and Pittsburgh forward Justin Champagnie are the only ACC players on the list.
The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2021 John R. Wooden Award Men's Player of the Year presented by Wendy's. Players not chosen to the late season list are still eligible for the Wooden Award™ National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award.
Nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games. The Wooden Award All American Team™ will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2021 John R. Wooden Award will be presented by Wendy's following the NCAA Tournament in April.
