The 16th annual Omaha Challenge begins on Thursday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The 16th annual University of Louisville baseball Omaha Challenge gets underway on Thursday to wrap up the fall semester for the Cardinals.
Jack Payton (Red Team) and Michael Prosecky (Black Team) are serving as the team captains for the annual competition that begins on Thursday afternoon with the vertical jump and squat testing. It continues with the shuttle run at Cardinal Stadium on Friday morning and the tire flip and towel hang in the afternoon.
After taking the weekend off, the Omaha Challenge resumes with basketball on Monday and the truck push set for Monday afternoon. The bike race will serve as the last event before the team departs for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Following the holiday break, the Cardinals jump back in on Monday, Nov. 29 with the tug-of-war, dodgeball and the 400-meter run. The Omaha Challenge then wraps up the next day with the 100-meter swim and individual medley.
Following the competition, team and individual winners will be crowned by Louisville head coach Dan McDonnell.
Payton will be joined on the Red Team by Brandon Anderson, Ben Bianco, Austin Bode, Braden Calise, Will Cook, Kaleb Corbett, Jaxson Davis, Kade Grundy, Tyeler Hawkins, Isaac Humphrey, Eddie King Jr., Christian Knapczyk, Tate Kuehner, Carson Liggett, Ben Metzinger, Kurtis Reid, Garrett Schmeltz, Luke Seed, Chris Seng, Noah Smith and Kyle Walter.

ABOUT THE OMAHA CHALLENGE
Soon after being hired to lead the Cardinals, McDonnell introduced an intense test of physical and mental stamina during his first fall at the University of Louisville with what he refers to as the Omaha Challenge. Two captains are selected and teams are drafted to compete against one another in a series of events testing the athleticism of the teams and the individuals, with a team crown and an individual champion to be named at the conclusion. Sports performance coach Zach Farrel oversees the intense competition, while also motivating his charges to extend themselves to their limits.
