UofL moves to 25-0 on the season and stays unbeaten in the ACC

The Cardinals stay perfect at 25-0 and 15-0 in the ACC and notched their 19th sweep of the season. UofL hit .206 with 42 kills, five aces and 14 blocks. Anna Stevenson had eight kills and eight blocks, adding a service ace. Claire Chaussee connected for eight kills and a block, hitting .368. Setter Tori Dilfer had 34 assists, an ace and two blocks. Libero Elena Scott had 12 digs and three aces.

Notre Dame hit .021 with 26 kills, an ace and seven blocks. Playing without their leading scorer, Charley Niego, had Caroline Meuth step into the void with nine kills and five blocks. Setter Zoe Nunez had 20 assists and eight digs.Anna DeBeer had 12 kills and five blocks to lead the No. 1-ranked University of Louisville to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 win at Notre Dame in ACC volleyball action Monday night in the Joyce Center.

The Cards hit .222 with two aces and five blocks in the first set. UofL trailed early and took the lead at 9-8 on a kill by Claire Chaussee. Louisville spread the lead to four but the Irish tied at 17. Louisville scored four straight points behind Anna Stevenson's serving to take the Cards to 20-17 and sparked an Irish timeout. The Irish would score only once more as the Cards took the set on an ace by Stevenson.

In the second set the key was the Cardinal defense. The best blocking team in the ACC notched six in the second stanza. In fact, four straight blocks gave the Cardinals a 16-10 lead and forced UND to burn its final timeout as part of a 7-0 run. A 3-0 run by Notre Dame took the Cards to within three at 18-14. The Cards outscored the Irish 7-4 down the stretch for the 25-18 to take a 2-0 set lead into the break.

In the third set a 15-0 scoring run led by Elena Scott's aggressive serving gave the Cards an 18-6 lead and forced Notre Dame to burn both timeouts as they tried to freeze the freshman libero. Â Up 21-9, Louisville emptied the bench and then held off an 11-4 run by the Irish for the 25-18 win.

The Cards are back in action this Friday when they host Duke at 7 p.m. in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
