University of Louisville men's tennis senior Alex Wesbrooks and his father, Michael, have captured their fifth straight United States Tennis Association (USTA) Father/Son Clay Court Nationals championship at the Thakkar Tennis Center in Sebring, Fla. With the win, the Wesbrookses set a tournament record.
After advancing to the finals with a pair of wins on Saturday, the pair defeated Peter and Tanner Smith 6-2 in their first set, but fell 6-1 to move to a decisive third set where they prevailed 6-3 to capture the championship.
"Being able to win this tournament for the fifth time in a row and breaking the record is really special for my dad and me," said Alex Wesbrooks. "We enjoy playing together in this tournament every year, and the fact that we are able to have success makes it even more special. It is an incredible event and one that we will continue playing for as long as we can."
