Louisville Comes up Short against NC State, 2-1

Sarah Hernandez scored on a cross from Kiana Klein in the 65th minute, but the Cardinals fell 2-1 to NC State on Sunday afternoon.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sarah Hernandez scored on a cross from Kiana Klein in the 65th minute, but Louisville women's soccer fell 2-1 to NC State at Lynn Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Louisville moves to 7-4-1 on the year and 3-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while NC State improves to 6-6-2 and 2-4 in league play.
NC State got on the board in the 13th minute when Jenna Butler sent the ball towards the net, Gabby Kouzelos attempted to smother it, but the ball got loose and Jameese Joseph scored.
The Cardinals outshot the Wolfpack 7-6 in the first half and had several chances, the best of which was Emma Hiscock's shot that hit the cross bar, but they went into the locker room at halftime trailing 1-0.
NC State added a goal to go up 2-0 in the 59th minute, but six minutes later the Cardinals had an answer.
Kiana Klein got the ball in transition and delivered a corner from the left side that found Sarah Hernandez who drilled the header home from the right side of the box to trim the lead in half.
Delaney Snyder had two chances to tie it in the final 10 minutes, but her header was high in the 83rd minute and her shot was saved in the 86th minute.
In the final minute, Maisie Whitsett had two chances at a free kick, but could not find anyone in the box and the Cardinals fell 2-1.
Kouzelos finished with one save on the day, while NC State goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta had four.
Louisville outshot NC State 13-11 for the match and had five shots on goal to the Wolfpack's three.
The Cardinals remain home next week to host Boston College on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
