
Louisville Lacrosse Manager Trent Porter Named 2020 Johnny Unitas Award Recipient

The Letterwinner’s Club Johnny Unitas Award goes to a student manager or student trainer who makes an outstanding contribution to their team.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse student manager Trent Porter has been named the 2020 Johnny Unitas Award Recipient. He was presented the award via a zoom call with his family in mid-December.

Porter is the first Louisville lacrosse student manager or student trainer to win this prestigious award.

"Trent continues to exceed my expectations as he consistently goes above and beyond to ensure the needs of both players and staff members are met," said head coach Scott Teeter. Â "Over the years, he has developed into a tremendous mentor for our younger team managers. He is a bright young man with a radiant personality, and no matter the circumstances, I can always count on Trent to make the most of any situation."

A native of Paducah, Ky., Porter is in his fifth year with the Louisville lacrosse program. He will graduate from the JB School of Engineering this spring with a M.S. in Civil Engineering.

In addition to serving as lacrosse student manager and getting both his bachelor's and master's degree in five years, he also served as Vice President of the Residential Learning Community at Sigma Epsilon Fraternity during his sophomore and junior years. Most recently, he participated in "Be The Match" campaign where he underwent a bone marrow transfusion to save the life of someone in need.

The L-Club (Letterwinner's Club) Johnny Unitas Award goes to a Student Manager or Student Trainer who makes an outstanding contribution for their team through dedication, desire, hard work, and loyalty which are the attributes exemplified by Johnny U while at the University of Louisville.

The scoring system is based upon the following criteria:
Nominations are accepted from coaches of each sport and the L-Club Board reviews all nominations and awards a winner. The award recipient receives $1500 that is transferred to their tuition account to offset their educational expenses. Â
