No. 11/13 Cardinals are ready to race
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving team returns to campus for the remainder of the 2020-21 season, which includes four dual meets prior to the start of postseason competition.
Â
"We are looking forward to some tough competition this semester," said Arthur Albiero, UofL head coach. "The schedule looks a little different than in the past, but it will give us a chance to hone in on details for our championship preparation. Our team has proven to be very resilient and flexible through the last many months, and we are all excited to race and dive again! Theodore Roosevelt said, 'Do what you can, with what you have, where you are' and that has been a good reminder and guidance for our season. We are truly enjoying the moment."
The No. 13/14 Cardinals hit the road on Saturday, January 9 to take on No. 21/RV Notre Dame at the Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Ind. The meet will be held in two sessions beginning with the women at 10 a.m. followed by the men at 2 p.m.
Â
UofL will then return to The Ville on Friday, January 15 as they welcome Missouri to the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The meet against the No. 8/13 Tigers is set for 1:00 p.m.
Â
The 2021 edition of the Battle of the Bluegrass will be held in Lexington at the Lancaster Aquatic Center. The Cardinals will go head-to-head with RV/No. 10 Kentucky on Saturday, January 23 at 1:00 p.m.
Â
Louisville closes out dual meet competition at home on Saturday, January 30 against Cincinnati for a 12:00 p.m. start time. The team will then host the Louisville First Chance Invitational from February 12-13.
Â
The Cardinals then dive into ACC Championship action in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The women's meet is slated for February 17-20 followed by the men on February 24-27. UofL will return to Greensboro for the women's NCAA Championships on March 17-20 with the men's meet on March 24-27.
Â
UofL concluded the 2019-20 season with a 4-2 dual meet record. Both the men's and women's teams finished third overall at the ACC Championships where the Cardinals produced a total of four individual gold medalists and two relay champions. Louisville qualified 10 men and 12 women for the NCAA Championships before the meet was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
