Louisville Men and Women Win the Notre Dame Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams won the Notre Dame Invitational Wednesday afternoon. The men won with 128 points, while the women tallied a score of 121.5 in the triangular meet which also featured host Notre Dame and Pittsburgh.

"We are grateful for the efforts the coaching staff and administration at Notre Dame put into hosting today," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "We also owe the faculty at UofL our gratitude for continuing to work with our students as scheduling adjustments arise. Our squads were able to get great work in during our trip to South Bend and while there were some standout performances, our focus was simply upon continuing to gain fitness as we move toward the ACC Championships in February. Our goal is simply to maintain heath while we gain fitness this winter and the team took a big step toward that goal today."

The Cardinals totaled 13 wins on the day, with the men picking up seven and the women collecting six.

For the men, Isiah Pantiere collected a pair of wins on the day. The Cardinals swept the top four spots in the long jump with sophomore Jeremiah Willis winning the event with a leap of 7.06m (23-2). Cayden Spencer-Thompson finished second at 6.95m (22-9.75). Sophomore Trey Allen delivered a personal best of 6.77m (22-2.5) to take third and junior Aaron Johnson finished fourth at 6.54m (21-5.5).

Sophomore Cayden Spender-Thompson won the triple jump with a leap of 15.21m (49-11) while sophomore Jonah Hyde registered a personal best jump of 13.28 (43-7) to finish second.

Adar Sheere's personal-best mark of 19.99m (65-7) gave the junior his third straight win of the season in the weight throw and freshman Ethan Alyea finished with a mark of 17.71m (58-1.25).

Senior Cade Richeson won the men's shot put with a throw of 17.37m (57-0). Sheere finished fourth in the event with a personal best mark of 16.74 (54-11.25).

The Cardinals swept the high jump with Allen's mark of 2.11m (6-11) taking first place. Hyde finished second at 2.01m (6-7) and Spencer Thompson's mark of 2.01 (6-7) good for third.

Isiah Pantiere paced the 60m field with a time of 6.99. David Spalding (7.05), Tkai Wade (7.14) and Olajuwon Wilson (7.24) rounded out the field of four.

Pantiere collected his second win of the meet with a time of 21.74 in the 200m. Sterling Warner-Savage came in second with a personal best time of 22.03. Freshman Tkai Wade and junior David Spalding has had career best times in the event.

Louisville placed second in the men's 4x4 400m relay as junior Kameron Jones, and sophomores Robert Kapolnek, Isiah Pantiere and Hayden Norris all competed and finished with a time of 3:20.01.

On the women's side, the Cardinals freshman Ariel Lawrence continued her impressive season with a pair of wins on the day. Louisville swept the long jump with freshman Ariel Lawrence picking up her first win of the day with a mark of 5.72m (18-9.25). Junior Briana Washington took second with a leap of 5.51m (18-1) with freshman Brooke Weimer rounding out the top three at 5.51 (18-1). Riley Burger went 5.36 (17-7) to finish fourth and junior Addie Wanner's mark of 5.26m (17-3.25), good for fifth place.

In the triple jump, Lawrence collected her second win with a career-best mark of 12.21m (40-0.75). Freshman Riley Burger took second at 11.61m (38-1.25) and junior Briana Washington rounded out the top three with a mark of 11.54m (37-10.5).

Senior Makenli Forrest continued her dominance in the weight throw, tallying her third straight win of the season in the event with a season-best mark of 22.16m (72-8.5). Senior Halee Hudson took third at 20.79m (68-2.5).

The Cardinals swept the top three spots in the women's pole vault with senior Gabriela Leon leading the way with a mark of 4.08m (13-4.5). Junior Aliyah Welter took second and sophomore Auriane Viola placed third with a mark of 3.93m ((12-10.74).

Senior Brooke Raglin won the 60m with a time of 7.59 while freshmen Kiyah Yeast (7.69) and Jaelynn Williams (7.85) finished second and third respectively.

The Cardinals swept the 200m run as they took the top three spots in the race. Freshman Kiyah Yeast led the group with the win and a time of 24.74. Senior Sharnae Alston came in second with a time of 25.14 and fellow freshman Jaelynn Williams finished third with a time of 25.26, a career best time.

Junior Purity Sanga delivered a personal best time of 9:35.79 to finish third in the 3000m. Senior Bailey Berry and sophomore Callie Friske also finished with career best times.
Freshman McKenzie Bell finished second in the 400m with a personal best time of 55.72.

In the 4x4 400 relay, Bell, Yeast, sophomore Isabelle Angerman and Sharnae Alston also took home second place with a time of 3:51.45.
