Warner-Savage, Forrest Collect Wins Day One of Doc Hale Elite

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams opened the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite with two wins and 11 personal-best performances on Friday at Virginia Tech's Rector Field House.
The meet will continue Saturday starting with women's pole vault at 11 a.m.

"We were able to get the weekend off to a great start this evening," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "We had several career bests, individual victories, and most importantly visual growth across all event areas. I'm excited to see the trend continue tomorrow and proud of the way our students continue to handle themselves during this ever-adjusting winter track and field season."

On day one of the event, the Cardinals posted 11 personal-best marks while Sterling Warner-Savage picked up a win in the men's 60m and senior Makenli Forrest won the women's weight throw.

For the men, Warner-Savage matched his personal-best and the school record with a time of 6.65 to win the 60m dash. In the 60m prelims, Warner-Savage paced the field of 24 with a time of 6.73 while junior David Spalding (7.07) and freshman Tkai Wade (7.072) placed 11th and 12th respectively with Wade recording his personal-best mark.

Junior Adar Sheere finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 19.25m (63-2) while freshman Ethan Alyea matched his personal best throw of 17.71m (58-1.25), good for seventh place.

Junior Aaron Johnson clocked a personal-best time of 8:18 in the prelims of the 60m hurdles to qualify for the finals where he posted a time of 8.22 to finish seventh.

On the women's side, the Cardinals took first and second in the women's weight throw as Forrest picked up her fourth straight win of the season in the event with a mark of 20.66m (67-9.5). Senior Halee Hudson finished second with a heave of 19.41m (63-8.25). Senior Victoria Farley notched her personal best mark of 16.46m (54-0) to finish fifth while sophomore Tiana Bazie's throw of 16.16m (53.25) placed seventh.

Junior Emma Bryant clocked a personal-best time of 2:10.75 to finish eighth in the 800m. Classmate Lindsay Fanz posted a season-best mark of 2:19.38 to finish 24th.

In the 60m prelims, senior Brooke Raglin's season-best time of 7.52 placed her third and freshman Kiyah Yeast career-best time of 7.62 place two in the finals while freshman Jaelynn Williams closed a personal best of 7.68 to finish ninth in the prelims.

Sophomore Carly Pujol placed second in the unseeded pole vault with a personal-best mark of 3.84m (12-7.25).

In the 400m, freshman McKenzie Bell won her heat and finished fourth overall with a time of 55.84.

Freshman Kiyah Yeast ran her career-best 60m with a time to 7.69 to place seventh in the event.

Freshman Brooke Weimer led a group of five Cardinals in the long jump, finishing ninth with a personal-best mark of 5.75m (18-10.5).
