Cardinals Vault into Second Place at the Southwestern Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Matthias Schmid and Trevor Johnson each shot 68 to vault the University of Louisville men's golf team into second place after the second round of the Southwestern Invitational held at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village on Tuesday.
The Cardinals shot a 5-under-par 283 to move just five shots behind the leader Arizona State, which carded a 282 on Tuesday afternoon. San Diego State and SMU are tied for third place just seven shots off the lead.
Tomorrow's third round begins at 11:55 p.m. EST, with the Cardinals pairing off with Arizona State, SMU, and San Diego State. The Golf Channel will air the last 18 holes, with coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Schmid fired a 4-under-par to move into second place just three shots off the lead. The senior posted a pair of birdies on the front nine holes, but scorched the back by converting five birdies.
Johnson moved his way into 18th after his 68, posting five birdies after carding a 79 on Monday.
John Murphy fired an even-par-72 to move into 18th place. He was steady all day with three birdies and three bogeys.
Devin Morley is tied for 23rd after his second round of 76 and Jiri Zuska rounded out the top five with a 75 to sit in a tie for 40th.
