Cardinals Open Indoor Season at McCravy Green Invitational this Weekend
January 14, 2021 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's track and field teams will open the 2021 indoor season this weekend when the Cardinals travel to Lexington, Ky., for the Rod McCravy-Jim Green Invitational which will take place Friday and Saturday.
Â
In addition to host Kentucky, the five-team field will also feature Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky and North Carolina A&T. View the meet schedule here and the live stats here.Â
Â
"We are grateful for the efforts our administration, staff, the ACC, and our hosts at the University of Kentucky have undertaken to arrange this weekend's event," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "It will be an exciting time for track and field as teams have been out of competition for over 10 months now.  Some of these students have spent those months finding a way to improve their individual abilities. Tomorrow they can begin to see the result of their commitment."
Â
Among the returners for the women competing this weekend will be Makenli Forrest and Gabriela Leon who earned 2020 NCAA Indoor All-American honors after qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championship in the weight throw and pole vault respectively. Fellow all-ACC performers Halee Hudson (weight throw), and Auriane Viola (pole vault) are also slated to compete. Â
Â
On the men's side, back in action this weekend will be four All-ACC second team honorees including Sterling Warner-Savage, who owns the school record in the 60M dash, Trey Allen (high jump) and Cayden Spencer-Thompson (high jump) and Micah Oberhausen (heptathlon).
Â
The Cardinals are returning competition for the first time since March 2020 when the spread of COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the NCAA Indoor Championships and the entire outdoor season.
Â
Returning student-athlete quotes:
"This weekend I'm looking forward to dropping a hot mark. I work extremely hard and I am not taking anything less than improvement." Sterling Warner-Savage
Â
"I'm looking forward to competing again this weekend for the first time since March! For the indoor season I am looking forward to competing here at home for the first time ever! I believe that will be cool and different for me. I am also looking forward to competing at some big meets that will help me be able to accomplish my indoor goals." Brooke Raglin
Â
"What I look forward to the most is the opportunity to compete again. Between injuries and COVID-19 it has been a year since I have been able to compete, so I am excited to be in a position to be able to jump this weekend and have a season." Luke Nichols
Â
"I'm really excited about this weekend, it would be my first meet with UofL and that makes it special. I'm looking forward to enjoying the moment with my teammates and putting big numbers on the board! For this upcoming season I'm looking forward to stay healthy and have some big throws."
