Cardinals Post Three Wins on Day One of the McCravy Green Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Louisville posted three wins to open the 2021 indoor season at the McCravy Green Invitation Friday at the University of Kentucky's Nutter Field House.

"Today was a terrific opportunity for our teams to knock some of the competitive rust off," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "Our results will continue to progress as the season develops and our staff is genuinely excited about the competitive effort the group showed in Lexington. We look forward to building upon the positive energy with another strong day tomorrow.

With 12 student-athletes making their University of Louisville debuts, the Cardinals won three of 10 events on the day including a sweep of the weight throws.

Senior Makenli Forrest picked up where she left off in her All-American 2020 campaign by taking first place with a mark of 20.74m (68-0.50). Tiana Bazie recorded a personal-best throw of 16.13m (52-11) en route to a seventh-place finish.

On the men's side, Adar Sheere, a junior transfer from Memphis, was impressive in his Louisville debut, winning the weight throw with a mark of 19.43m (63.9).

Louisville claimed two of the top three spots in the women's long jump. Freshman Ariel Lawrence took first place with a leap of 5.91m (19-4.75) for her first career win. Junior Briana Washington finished third with a jump of 5.54m (18-2.75).

In the men's long jump sophomore Jeremiah Willis posted a second-place finish with a leap of 7.38m (24-2.50) while junior Micah Oberhausen recorded a personal-best mark of 7.11m (23-4) to place fourth.

In the men's high jump, Louisville got impressive performances from sophomores Trey Allen and Cayden Spencer-Thompson who tied for third with a clearance of 2.01m (6-7). Fellow sophomore Jonah Hyde placed fourth with a mark of 1.96m (6-5).

In the women's high jump, freshman Kambi Walker cleared 1.61 to finish fourth in her first collegiate event.

While making his collegiate debut, freshman Jorge Contreras placed second in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.96m (55-7.75). Cade Richeson started his senior season on a strong note placing third in the event with a throw of 16.40m (53-9.75). Fellow freshman Ethan Alyea also competed in his first career event.

On the women's side, senior Victoria Farley led the Cardinals with a throw of 13.44m (44-1.25) to finish sixth.

Freshman Kiyah Yeast, in her first career event, led the Cardinals in the women's 200 meter dash, winning her heat and finishing sixth overall in the race with a time of 24.97. Senior Sharnae Alston finished ninth with a time of 25.47. Brooke Weimer and Jaelynn Williams also competed in their first events as Cardinals.

Sophomore Isiah Pantiere paced the Cardinals in the men's 200 meter dash with an eighth-place finish in a time of 22.00. Tkai Wade, David Spalding, Olajuwon Wilson and Justin Lehmkuhler all competed in their first career event.
