Catching Up with Cardinal Forever Erin Conrad
March 26, 2020 | Field Hockey
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - As we reconnect with our Cardinal Field Hockey alumnae, we turn to former UofL goalkeeper Erin Conrad who recently checked an item off of her bucket list.
Eight years removed from her days as a college athlete, the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., native is now living in Denver, Colorado and working in human resources for the Gap. She has continued to give back to the sport of hockey as a high school junior varsity coach and has continued to stay active with running, skiing and hiking.
Â
Conrad, who played for the Cardinals from 2008 through 2012 recently completed a goal that was near and dear to her heart when she, along with fellow UofL alums Chelsea Bemis, Katelyn (Mann) Donnelly and Lacey Jurich traveled to Disney World in January to compete in the Dopey Challenge.
She shares her Disney experience below:
"Five years ago, my sister and I were supposed to run the Disney Marathon with my dad, it was his favorite race. We never got to run that marathon with him. Last year I really wanted to do something in memory of my dad and also something he would love, so I signed up for the Dopey Challenge. If my dad was here, there is no doubt he would be running the race with me or at every mile-mark cheering me on.
Â
We completed the Dopey Challenge which consisted of a 5K on Thursday, 10K Friday, Half Marathon on Saturday, and full Marathon on Sunday. We ran through all four Disney parks, one waterpark, and a couple of Disney hotels. The courses were filled with music and Disney characters along the way. There were over 16,000 people who ran the races that weekend.
Â
I ran with two former UofL softball players: Katelyn Donnelly (Mann) and Chelsea Bemis. On Sunday, Lacey Jurich joined us for the marathon. It was so much fun to run alongside these women as we pushed each other and cheered each other on. It was the most fun race weekend I have ever had. It was fun to have this huge challenge and come out successful with some great friends. It reminded me of some of the grueling workouts during college field hockey, where we pushed through and came out on top!"
