
Murphy Leads Cardinals to Fifth-Place Finish at the General Hackler Championship

John Murphy shot 7-under-par over the final two rounds.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - John Murphy fired a final round 68 to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at The General Hackler Championship, which was played at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach.
Entering the final round in eighth place, the Cardinals carded an even-par 288 to finish with an 866 team total. The Cardinals were only one of four teams to shoot even par or better on the afternoon.
North Carolina won the event at 23-under-par, while Liberty was second and Wake Forest finished third.
Beginning the day in a tie for 49th place, Murphy posted the best round for the Cardinals, shooting a 4-under-par to move up into a tie for 21st place. After shooting a first-round score of 80, Murphy shot 7-under-par over the final two rounds.
On Tuesday, Murphy fired a 1-over-par over the first five holes, but responded with six-straight birdies and seven over nine holes.
Overall, Keegan de Lange posted the top overall finish by closing the tournament in 14th place. He finished with a 1-under-par 70-73-72=215 to end the tournament as the only UofL player under par.
Senior Trevor Johnson shot a 1-over-par 217 to finish in a tie for 21st, while Matthias Schmid tied for 36th after shooting 74-71-76=221.
Jiri Zuska rounded out the top five by carding a 78-72-75=225 to tie for 57th-place overall.
The Cardinals return to action on March 16-17 at the Louisiana Classics in Oakbourne, La.
