
Women's Cross Country Finishes 12th; Men's Place 13th at ACC Championships

CARY, N.C. – The University of Louisville women's cross country team posted a 12th place finish and the men's team finished 13th in the 2020 ACC Cross Country Championships Friday at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C.
"The ACC and NC State did an outstanding job of hosting this year's championship during a challenging time in sport," said UofL head coach Dale Cowper. "Obviously, we are a bit disappointed with the result, but the effort was visible today and I'm excited to go back to the drawing board and help this group move forward."
Redshirt junior Purity Sanga led the women's team with a time of 20:46.4 for a 23rd place finish. Junior Ivine Chemutai clocked in at 21:28.7 to place 57th. Senior Bailey Beery (21:35.8) finished at No. 62 with a time of 21:35.8. Junior Emma Bryant (22:03.3) and sophomore Callie Friske (23:32.2) rounded out the Cardinals' top five finishers at Nos. 83 and 118 respectively.
Overall, NC State took home its fifth straight ACC title with 47 points with the Wolfpack's Dominique Clairmonte taking the individual title with a time of 19:55.1.
On the men's side, the Cardinals were paced by senior Albert Kosgei, who posted a 37th place finish with a time of 24:07.5. Fellow senior Cameron Stephens registered a time of 25:10.5. Senior Ben Ewert (25:29.7) and junior Ryan Johnston (26:06.0) finished at No. 105 and 114 respectively.
In the overall standings, Notre Dame captured its second title in three years as the Fighting Irish's Yared Nuguse led his team's victory with an 8K gold medal time of 23:03.6.
