Cardinals Set for Saturday's Live in Lou Classic
October 01, 2020 | Cross Country
Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville's men's and women's cross country teams will get back in action Saturday, Oct. 3, as they participate in the 19th annual Live in the Lou Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park. The men's 8000m race will kick off the event at 9 a.m. while the women's 5000m race is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.
For more information please visit the event website here.
The race will feature a truncated field due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent cancellation of championship events for fall sports that has led to many programs foregoing the season entirely, but UofL head coach Dale Cowper said he's happy the event is taking place at all under the circumstances.
"The Greater Louisville Sports Commission has gone above and beyond to make this fall's Cross Country Classic happen," Cowper said. "This will be one of the premier inter-conference competitions contested throughout the nation and we are excited to see what happens at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park on Saturday morning."
According to the event's website, all programs competing in the meet will provide evidence and documentation that all "required race-specific COVID-19 testing and protocols have been met as of race day" and that "coaches will confirm on the direct athletes meet entry page that student-athletes competing meet all standard COVID-19 health requirements."
Cowper said the Cardinals have maintained their focus in preparations for the season despite the lack of a national championship in the fall.
"Our squads are continuing to grow their fitness levels with the objective of being in peak form for the ACC Championships on October 30th. This weekend we hope to show progress toward that objective relative to our opening race at Notre Dame two weeks ago."
The Field
In addition to Louisville, the men's field includes: Notre Dame, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Tennessee and Marshall. The women's field features: West Virginia, Notre Dame, Appalachian State, Charlotte, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Tennessee and Marshall.
Previous Meeting
