Men's Tennis Participates in 2020 Spring Sports Media Day

With the season just underway, head coach Rodrigo da Silva along with sophomore Fabien Salle updated the local media on the team's progress as part of the University of Louisville's Spring Sports Media Day at the Planet Fitness Kueber Center media room on Thursday.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE MEN'S TENNIS
• UofL opened the season by winning five straight matches, including four at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center - highlighted by a 4-3 win against No. 10 Virginia. The Cards went on to advance to the finals of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend where they fell 4-1 to host, fifth-ranked Baylor.
• The Cardinals are receiving votes in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) team top 25 poll released on Jan. 22.
• Louisville is led in singles by junior Tin Chen, who carries a 19-3 overall record and is 4-0 at No. 1 in dual matches. Sophomore Sergio Hernandez follows with a 13-4 record and is 4-1 at the No. 2 spot.
• Hernandez and fellow sophomore Fabien Salle lead the Cardinals in doubles with an overall record of 13-3.
• Chen was named ACC Men's Tennis Co-Player of the Week on January 21 after leading Louisville to a 4-3 upset of No. 10 Virginia. The junior clinched the match with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 win against No. 68 Gianni Ross at No. 1
• Chen stands at No. 42 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings. In the fall, he became the first player in program history to capture the ITA/Ohio Valley Regional singles title.
• Head coach Rodrigo da Silva is in his first season at the helm at Louisville.He took over the program in September 2019 after spending four seasons as the head men's tennis coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He makes his return to UofL where he spent six years (2009-14) as an assistant coach, helping guide the Cardinals to three BIG EAST Conference tournament titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances.
• Louisville returns to action Friday when the Cardinals take on Northwestern at 12 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
