Louisville Women Win the Notre Dame Invitational And Men Finish Second

Cardinals win 11 event titles
South Bend, Ind. -- The University of Louisville women's track team won the Notre Dame Invitational while the men's team finished second behind host Notre Dame. The Cardinal women finished with 140 points for the win while the men finished with 113 points. Overall, the Cardinals finished the day with 11 event wins.
"We were able to get a lot accomplished today," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Obviously we are excited to pick up the women's team victory and 11 overall individual event titles. However, I was particularly pleased with the way our women's squad came out and competed at a high level across all event areas."

Kayla Alexander kicked off the day with a win in the women's long jump. Alexander leaped 5.82m/19-11.25 to earn her first career win in the long jump.  Freshman Cayden Spencer-Thompson was one of Cardinals with two wins on the day. For the second consecutive competition, Spencer-Thompson won the triple jump with a mark of 15.05m/49-4.50. He then won his first collegiate high jump, clearing 2.10m/6-10.75.
Rashida Harris also won for the second straight week in the shot put. The senior threw a season best of 15.12m/49-7.25 for the win. Cade Richeson won the shot put on the men's side. The junior threw a season best of 17.61m/57-9.50 for his first win of the season.Â
Junior Gabriela Leon recorded her second consecutive win in the pole vault. Leon led the Louisville sweep in the event with a mark of 4.20m/13-9.25. Teammates Auriane Viola and Aliyah Welter finished second and third, respectively.

On the track, Louisville finished with five wins.  Sophomore Kameron Jones earned his first collegiate win in the 400m dash. Jones finished with a career best time of 48.88. Brooke Raglin ran a collegiate best time of 7.35 in the 60m dash for the win. She also finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.74.Â

Freshman Isiah Pantiere finished the day with two wins. He won the 60m dash with a time of 6.94 and then went on to win the 200m dash with a time of 21.57.  Junior Sharnae Alston won the 200m dash with a time of 24.70.  She also finished second in the 60m dash with a collegiate best time of 7.48.   Â

The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend at the Power Five Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
"We have a few minor ailments to recover from but we look forward to heading north next weekend for the Power Five Invitational at the University of Michigan," said Cowper. Â "After that our squads will have a well-deserved recovery weekend in early February."

Kayla Alexander kicked off the day with a win in the women's long jump. Alexander leaped 5.82m/19-11.25 to earn her first career win in the long jump.  Freshman Cayden Spencer-Thompson was one of Cardinals with two wins on the day. For the second consecutive competition, Spencer-Thompson won the triple jump with a mark of 15.05m/49-4.50. He then won his first collegiate high jump, clearing 2.10m/6-10.75.
