Geoffrey Kirwa Selected as ACC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
April 07, 2026 | Track & Field
The sophomore clocked a 5000m time of 13:21.49 at the Stanford Invitational, the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Louisville men's track & field sophomore Geoffrey Kirwa has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the ACC on Tuesday.
Kirwa opened his sophomore outdoor campaign over the weekend at the Stanford Invitational, clocking a 5000m time of 13:21.49 that leads the ACC and ranks second in the NCAA. The time also took nearly 10 seconds off the previous program record of 13:30.83 that he set at the 2025 Stanford Invitational.
The honor marks the second time Kirwa has been named ACC Men's Track Athlete of the Week in his career, notably winning the award last April when he clocked the second-fastest 3000m steeplechase time in collegiate history at the 2025 Bryan Clay Invitational.
The Cardinals will return to action this weekend when the Louisville throwers travel to Ramona, Okla. for the Oklahoma Throws Series on Apr. 9-11.
