Louisville Field Hockey Represented on USA Field Hockey Teams

Cards Place Seven on USA Field Hockey Teams
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seven University of Louisville field hockey student-athletes have been selected to USA Field Hockey national squads. Alli Bitting, Erica Cooper, Margot Lawn, Meghan Schneider and Minna Tremonti were named to the Under-21 team while Hollyn Barr and Carter Ayars were picked for the U.S. Women's National Development Squad.

Bitting, a junior from Hummelstown, Pa., earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America second team honors. The defender helped the Cardinals to eight shutouts on the season and registering one goal and four assists. The two-time NFHCA All-West Region selection was also a member of the 2017 ACC All-Tournament team. Â

Cooper, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., was a 2019 NFHCA All-West Region honoree. The midfielder finished her sophomore year with a pair of goals. She played in all 22 games with 16 starts and was instrumental in both offense and defense as the Cardinals outscored opponents 49-26.

Lawn, a freshman from Pasadena, Md., played in 21 game with four starts in her rookie season. The forward led Louisville's freshman offensively with four goals and two assists for 10 points. She was a member of USA Field Hockey's U19 team in 2019 and the U17 team from 2017-19.

Tremonti, a midfielder/forward from Ann Arbor, Mich., turned in a solid freshman season, playing in all 22 games with 10 starts. She scored her first collegiate goal in the Cardinals' win against Longwood.

Schneider (San Diego, Calif.), enters her third season with USA Field Hockey's U21 team and previously spent two years as a member of USA Field Hockey U19 team. The defender earned NFHCA All-West Region honors after starting all 22 games dished out a career-high five assists while helping lead the Cardinals to eight shutouts.
 Ayars, (Wilmington, Dell, makes her first appearance on the USA Field Hockey Development Squad after spending two seasons on the U21 Team and a two-year stint on the U-19 team.

The defender is coming off of a career-best senior season in which she earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America honors after tallying five goals and 12 points. The three-time NFHCA All-Region honoree and 2019 All-ACC selection was a valuable part of the Cardinals' defense which produced eight shutouts, earning ACC Co-Player of the Week honors on Oct. 8. She represented the Cardinals in the NFHCA Senior Game.

Bar, a redshirt junior from Lancaster, Pa., started every game in 2019 and produced a 1.06 goals against average while recording 7.5 shutouts this season. She earned ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 22.
About the U-21 USWNT
• The squad will begin training starting next month in Chula Vista, Calif. from February 20 to 24. Their second training camp will take place alongside the other women's Junior National Teams from March 27 to 29 in Chapel Hill and Durham, N.C. These training camps will be part of the team's year-long preparations for the Junior Pan American Championship that will take place from November 30 to December 13 in Santiago, Chile.

About the U.S. Women's National Development Squad
• The 23 athletes selected to the 2020 U.S. Women's National Development Team were named following their performances at the USWNT Trial from January 6 to 8 at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa. This pool of athletes consisted of 2019 U.S. Women's National Team members, athletes selected from the 2019 Young Women's National Championship and players recommended by their respective collegiate coaches.
• The U.S. Women's National Development Team accounts for the transitional phase between the U-21 USWNT and the senior USWNT. Several of the trial attendees recently completed their final college season and are no longer permitted to be on the junior team due to age restrictions.

The 2019 Cardinals posted a 16-6 overall record, tying a program mark for wins and earned the overall No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament, serving as a host site for the first time in program history. Louisville also made its first foray into the NCAA quarterfinals after defeating Michigan 2-1 in double-overtime in its first-round matchup.
