Cardinals Open 2020 Season Against Dayton, Bellarmine on Sunday

Cards play host to Dayton at 11 a.m., Bellarmine at 4 p.m. Sunday
Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will open its 2020 season by welcoming Dayton and Bellarmine to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Sunday. The Cardinals kick off the doubleheader against Dayton at 11 a.m. and will take on Bellarmine at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

"We are excited to get on the court this weekend," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva who is in his first season at the helm. "We made a lot of progress in the fall and we look to continue that momentum as we open the new year."

About Louisville Men's Tennis
• The Cardinals posted a 16-13 overall record in 2019 and reached as high as No. 47 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team rankings. Louisville returns eight players and welcomes five newcomers.
• Among the Cardinals' returners is Fabien Salle who led the 2019 team in overall singles wins (22) and doubles victories (21) along with fellow sophomore Sergio Hernandez who registered a team-best 17 dual matches wins in singles. David Mizrahi, Juan Paredes, Marcus Sulen and Alex Wesbrooks round out the returning sophomore class.
• Seniors Clement Filho and Fredrik Moe will also provide veteran leadership with the addition of freshmen James Bell, Daniel Fainblum, Matthew Fung and Randy Wilson.
• In the 2019-20 fall season, junior transfer Tin Chen led the Cardinals with a 15-3 singles record and became the first player in program history to win the ITA/Ohio Valley singles championship. Hernandez and Salle finished the fall campaign with an 11-2 mark in doubles.
• Head Coach Rodrigo da Silva is entering his first season as the head coach of the University of Louisville. He took over the program in September 2019 after spending four seasons as the head men's tennis coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He makes his return to UofL where he spent six years (2009-14) as an assistant coach, helping guide the Cardinals to three BIG EAST Conference tournament titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances.

Up Next: The Cardinals will wrap up a four-match home stand on January 18 when they open ACC play against No. 10 at 12 p.m. and follow with a matchup against Austin Peay at 4:30 p.m.
