
Murphy, Schmid Pace the Cardinals to the Lead at the Bearcat Invitational

John Murphy shot a 10-under-par to hold the lead after two rounds,
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Three University of Louisville men's golf members hold the top two spots to lead the Cardinals after two rounds of the 2019 Bearcat Invitational at ColdstreamCountry Club on Monday.
The Cardinals fired a 272-274=546 to hold a 13-shot lead over second place Arkansas and a 19-shot advantage over third place Penn State. Louisville shot 22-under-par over the first 36 holes, searching for its first tournament title since winning the Old Town Club Collegiate last season.
Individually, John Murphy put together the two best combined rounds of his career at 10-under-par. The native of Ireland fired a 67-66=133 to hold a one-shot lead over his teammates Matthias Schmid, who carded a 67-67=134 and Keegan de Lange, who fired a 68-66=134.
Murphy recorded six birdies in the first round and six in the second, while Schmidregistered 10 over the two rounds.
"It was a great day for the Cardinals," head coach Mark Crabtree said. "Our guys were exceptions and I'm so pleased to see their continued progress. John Murphy, Matthias Schmidand Trevor Johnson all led the way for us."
Trevor Johnson gives the Cardinals four players in the top five after he shot a 66-70=136 to enter the final round just three shots off the lead.
Devin Morley is tied for 24thafter his rounds of 72-72=144 and JiriZuskais tied for 45thafter carding a 76-71=147.
The Cardinals will be paired with Arkansas and Penn State at 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
