
Men's Golf Looks to Defend Old Town Club Collegiate Tournament Title

The Cardinals are ranked No. 7 in the recent Golfweek rankings.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The seventh-ranked University of Louisville men's golf team continues its fall season Monday by competing at Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational -- a tournament the Cardinals won last season.

The Cardinals received their highest ranking in school history with the released on Friday by Golfweek.
The 54-hole event will feature 36 holes of play on Monday and an 18-hole final round on Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. ET on both days. The Old Town Club is par 70 and a 6,966-yard layout. The event is open to the public, with free parking and admission.
"We had a good start to the season at Duke," head coach Mark Crabtree said. "We hope to build on last week and see continued improvement in key areas."
Joining the Cardinals in the 13-team field will be Wake Forest, Augusta, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Loyola (Md), Penn State, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Washington, West Virginia, Yale.

Last season, the Cardinals won the same tournament by edging out Wake Forest by a stroke. Matthias Schmid set the school record for the best 54-hole score, and won his first tournament by firing an 18-under-par 192, besting Wake Forest's Eric Bae by three strokes to win medalist honors.
When Louisville returns to the course on Monday, head coach Mark Crabtree will start a lineup of junior Matthias Schmid, seniors John Murphy, Devin Morley, and Trevor Johnson, and sophomore Jiri Zuska.

The Cardinals opened the fall season last Saturday by finishing third at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, N.C. Â Schmid and Murphy posted top-10 finishes to lead the squad.

Schmid finished eighth overall after shooting an even-par 72 on Sunday. The Germany native carded a 4-under-par 68-72-72=212 in his first tournament of the fall season. Murphy, who started the day in a tie for second place shot a 4-over-par 76 to finish at 3-over-par for the two-day event.
