Cardinals Fall to No. 16 Kentucky

University of Louisville junior Anna Stevenson had eight kills and five blocks but it was not enough as the No. 16-ranked University of Kentucky rolled 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 Friday night in Memorial Coliseum.

The No. 25-ranked Cardinals (6-3) hit .070 with two aces and seven blocks. Tori Dilfer led with 16 assists with Aiko Jones adding six kills and three blocks.  Kentucky moves to 7-4 and hit .347 with nine blocks and six aces. The Wildcats were paced by Leah Edmond's 15 kills two aces and two blocks.

UofL was sluggish out of the gate, falling behind 11-6 on an ace by Edmond, sparking a Cardinal timeout. The Cats continued to spread the lead, going up eight on a kill by UK's Kendyl Paris at 18-10. The Cards were out-scored 7-5 down the stretch, falling 25-15. The Cats hit a toasty .469 while the Cards hit .207 with just 10 kills.

In the second set, UK scored the first three points but the Cards rallied to take the lead at 6-5 on two straight hitting errors by Caitlyn Cooper.  The Cats tied at nine on a Cardinal hitting error and then took eth lead by for good at 12-11 on a kill by Lea Meyer. Edmonds served the Cats out to finish, with seven straight points as UK rolled 25-14.

In the third set, Louisville took its first lead at 5-4 on a kill by Stevenson. An ace by Edmonds and a UK block gave the lead back to Kentucky at 8-7 and the Cards would not lead again. UofL did make things interesting late in the set when it pulled to within one at 20-19 on a rare Edmond hitting error but the Cats recovered to power to the 25-21 win.

The Cardinals continue Rivalry Week on Sunday at Cincinnati when they take on the Bearcats at 1 p.m. in Fifth/Third Arena.
