Gelnovatch Records Career High Seven Saves as Cards Earn Draw

Louisville opened ACC play with a 0-0 draw at Syracuse
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The 20th ranked University of Louisville men's soccer team opened ACC play with a 0-0 draw on the road at Syracuse Friday night, September 13. The Cardinals are now 2-1-2 on the season.

UofL goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch made a career-high seven saves on the night. Five of those saves came in the second half.

Despite being out-shot 6-to-3 in the first half, the Cardinals put more shots on target, 3-2, than Syracuse. Haji Abdikadir had the first opportunity in the 7th minute. Cody Cochran added a shot on goal in the 33rd and Leonard Getz added another in the 40th.

The Louisville offense was limited to one shot in the second half as the Orange accounted for eight.

In the final seconds of regulation, Syracuse's Luther Archimede received his second yellow card game, resulting in a red card and an ejection. The result gave the Cardinals a man advantage during the overtime periods.

Emil Elveroth has a chance inside the box in the 97th minute, but the shot was blocked by a Syracuse defender. Cherif Dieye put a shot on goal in the 106th minute that the Syracuse keeper was able to scoop up, it was the only shot on goal by either team in overtime. The Cardinals' defense was able to keep the Orange without a shot attempt in the overtime periods, resulting in the scoreless tie.

Louisville returns home in one week to host Virginia Tech, Friday, September 20, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
