
Schmid to Participate in Palmer Cup

Matthias Schmid is the third UofL player to participate in the event.
ORLANDO, Fla. (June 3, 2019) – For the third time iin school history, the University of Louisville men's golf team will have a player compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup – a three-day Ryder Cup-style event featuring the world's top men's and women's college golfers on Friday-Sunday, June 7-9 from The Alotian Club in Roland, Ark.
Sophomore Matthias Schmid will represent the international team, becoming the third player to play in the event. The native of Germany is one of the top players in the country, posting a school record 70.55 stroke average this year and was instrumental in leading the Cardinals to their fourth NCAA championship appearance.
Playing in 13 events, Schmid has finished in the top in the top five on seven occasions and produced 10 top-10 finishes.
The native of Maxvette, Germany posted a second-place standing at the NCAA Louisville Regional, including a school-best 66 in the first round. He owns one of the three individual wins over the course of the season. Schmid dominated the field at the Old Town Club Collegiate on Sept. 24-25, firing an 18-under-par 192 to earn his first career win.
The 23rd annual Arnold Palmer Cup sees the best U.S. and international collegiate golfers competing on co-ed teams over three days at venues that alternate between domestic (U.S.) and international sites each year. Co-ed since the 2018 event at Evian Resort Golf Club in France, the Arnold Palmer Cup is one of the game's only events in which men and women compete side-by-side as partners.
