Cardinals Set for ACC Outdoor Championships

ACC Outdoor Championships begin on Thursday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams will begin their championship season on Thursday afternoon in Charlottesville, Va. at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
Thursday's competition will open with the multi-events at 12:30 p.m. 2018 ACC heptathlon runner-up Holly Hankenson along with Addie Wanner will compete on the women's side, while Aaron Johnson, Dominic McClinton and Clay Moss will compete in the decathlon.
Thursday will also feature select running preliminaries, including the 400m hurdles trials. Martice Moore enters the meet ranked second in the ACC with a time of 51.13 from the Louisville Invitational.
Dorcas Wasike will look to defend her 2018 ACC 10,000m title at 7:50 p.m. In her lone 10,000m race this season, Wasike won the Raleigh Relays with a time of 33:28.30. That time currently ranks 20th in the nation and fourth in the ACC.
Alexis Gibbons ranks second in the ACC in the long jump with a school record mark of 6.39m/20-11.75. Marcus Jegede ranked first in the ACC in the long jump with a leap of 7.68m/25-02.50. Both Gibbons and Jegede will look to build on fourth-place finishes from 2018 on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
Friday will feature top-seeded Albert Kosgei in the 3,000m steeplechase at 8:10 p.m. and fifth-ranked Moore in the 110m hurdle trials at 6:25 p.m. Kosgei took the steeplechase win at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 8:47.50.
At 6:30 p.m., Anthony McRoberts, Luke Nichols, and Skyler VanMeter will take part in the high jump. All three jumpers are ranked in the top 10 of the ACC. Nichols is top-ranked with a leap of 2.21m/07-03, McRoberts is sixth with a mark of 2.11m/06-11, and VanMeter ranks 10th with a jump of 2.05m/06-08.75.
Friday will also see the conclusion of the heptathlon and decathlon.
To close out the meet, the running event finals will take place on Saturday, along with the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Wasike, the 2018 ACC runner-up in the 5,000m, will run at 6:01 p.m. on the women's side, while Kosgei will make his season debut in this event at 6:23 p.m. Wasike's time of 16:13.59 in her lone showing in the 5,000m this season at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational ranks ninth in the ACC.
Makenli Forrest and Gianna Gaul will compete in discus at 4:30 p.m. Forrest is ranked third in the ACC after posting a mark of 55.76m/182-11 at the Victor Lopez Classic and finished as the ACC runner-up in 2018. Gaul is ranked 10th in the conference with her throw of 48.75m/159-11 at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational.
The ACC Championships will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra all three days.
