Cardinals Set Three School Records at Louisville Invitational

Louisville finishes with nine wins on the weekend
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field team wrapped up the 2019 Louisville Invitational with nine wins and three new school records on Saturday afternoon in Cardinal Park.
The Cardinals swept the long jump, winning both the men's and women's. Renate van Tonder recorded the first win of the day for the Cardinals. She leaped 6.22m/20-5.00 to win the event. Senior Marcus Jegede won the event with a jump of 7.64m/25-0.75.
Louisville also swept the pole vault, sophomores Gabriela Leon and Lucas Weaver scored wins for the Cards. Leon broke her school record and her personal best, clearing the bar at 4.27m/14-00. Weaver collected his first collegiate win in the pole vault. He won the event with a new personal best mark of 4.85m/15-11.0.
Dorcas Wasike won the 3000m, racing the event for the first time this outdoor season. She ran a personal best time of 9:08.53, besting her previous mark by over 10 seconds and breaking her previous school record. Emmanuel Cheboson also won the 3000m, giving the Cards another sweep for the day. Cheobson finished with a personal best time of 8:20.04.
Kayla Alexander also broke a school record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.44. She broke Theresa Lewis' record of 13.52 set at the 2007 Big East Championships. Luke Nichols won the high jump with a personal best mark of 2.21m/7-03. The win was the first collegiate win for the freshman.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, April 20 at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
