LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's golf team concluded the regular season with another strong performance by finishing second at the Stitch Intercollegiate on Saturday.
In a tournament that was limited to just two rounds because of weather, Wake Forest rallied by shooting 8-under over the final eight holes of the second round at MacGregor Downs Country Club to erase a five-shot deficit by the Cardinals and grab victory at the event.
The No. 3 Demon Deacons ended the event at 14-under, one shot ahead of the Cardinals, who finished at 13-under. The Cardinals were 11-under-par when the rain hit on Friday and halted action midway through the second round. It was the 11th time this season that the Cardinals finished in the top five of a tournament this season.
Jiri Zuska continued his run of fine play by shooting a 5-under-par 139 to finish in fourth place. He opened play with a 70 on Friday and followed it up with a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday to pace the Cardinals. Matthias Schmid tied for fifth place after she shot a 4-under-par 140.
John Murphy was in the top 10 after he carded a 3-under-par 141 to tie for 10th place, while Devin Morley tied for 15th after firing a 1-under-par 143, Simon Zach rounded out the top five by finishing in a tie for 57th with a 150.
The Cardinals return to action next week with the ACC Championship at Old North State Club. The tournament runs Thursday-Saturday.
