Louisville scores nine runs in the sixth and seventh inning to erase a 2-0 deficit.
The University of Louisville softball team scored nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings to erase a 2-0 deficit and beat Boston College 9-2 in the opening game of an ACC series Friday evening at Harrington Village.

Sophomore Kyra Snyder went 3-for-4 with two runs an RBI while freshman Charley Butler and sophomore Maddy Newman drove in three runs apiece to spark Louisville's late-inning offense. Â Redshirt freshman Taylor Roby (9-1) picked up the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on one hit and striking out two in 3.2 innings of relief.

The Eagles (13-24, 3-10 ACC) jumped to a 1-0 lead in the second when walks to Gianna Boccagno and Gianna Randazza drew back-to-back walks to set up Jenna Ergle's RBI hit.

Boston College added a run in the fourth. Baccagno walked and took second on Randazza's sacrifice bunt and Ergle followed with another RBI single to make the score 2-0.

Louisville (26-14, 7-6 ACC) used two walks, an error and four hits to put up a five-spot in the sixth inning.
Megan Hensley and Taylor Roby were each hit by a pitch and Rebecca Chung reached on an error. Consecutive RBI singles by Caitlin Ferguson, Kyra Snyder and Cassady Greenwood gave Louisville a 3-2 lead. Maddy Newman followed with a two-run single to give Louisville a 5-2 lead.Â

Louisville tacked on four more runs in the top of the seventh. Roby was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game, Chung walked and Snyder singled to bring up freshman Charley Butler who connected on a bases-clearing double. Newman followed with a double of her own to plate Butler, making the score 9-2.

The teams will continue the series Saturday at 1 p.m.

- With her stolen base in today's game, Melton now has 37 in her career and stands third on Louisville's all-time list. She needs seven more to tie Jennifer Esteban (2010-13) for second. She is also tied for second on the school's single-season list.
- Funke also recorded a stolen base in the game and entered the school's top 10 in single season with 17 and career with 37.
- As a team, Louisville has a program-record 72 stolen bases on the season.
- Roby leads the team with a .333 batting average and is tied for the team lead with nine wins.
