Forrest throws a personal best in her final round to earn first team All-American honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On the final day of the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, University of Louisville's Makenli Forrest finished as the runner-up in the weight throw and earned first team All-American honors.
"That was an exciting competition," said head coach Dale Cowper. "For Makenli to come into the event ranked eighth and finish as the NCAA runner-up is simply a testament to her competitive nature and her ability to maintain composure today. Her future is bright and I look forward to having the opportunity to continue working with over the next few years."
Forrest threw a personal-best 22.54m/73-11.50 in the final round to clinch second place and first-team All-American accolades. She is now a two-time All-American after earning second-team honors in 2018. Sade Olatoye of Ohio State won the event with a mark of 24.46m/80-03.
Forrest's previous best of 22.18m/72-09.25 set at the Hoosier Hills Invitational ranked her eighth in the NCAA heading in to the competition. She won the weight throw four times this season, finishing in the top four of all six meets. She earned second team All-ACC honors after finishing fourth at the ACC Championships with a throw of 20.71m/67-11.50.
The Cardinals will open their outdoor track and field season on March 14 at the Houston Opener in Houston, Texas.
