Cardinals Start Outdoor Season with 14 Wins

Louisville collected 14 wins in the Houston Spring Break Invitational
HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Louisville track and field team opened the outdoor season with 14 wins at the Houston Spring Break Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Halee Hudson picked up the first win for the Cardinals in hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 55.73m/182-10. Gianna Gaul earned her first collegiate win in discus with a personal-best throw of 46.49m/152-06.
Renate von Tonder and Marcus Jegede gave the Cards a sweep in the long jump. Taking the top spot on the women's side, von Tonder finished with a jump of 6.30m/20-08. Jegede on the recorded his first win of the season with a leap of 7.53m/24-08.50.
Anthony McRoberts started the outdoor season with two wins. His first win of the day came in the triple jump with a mark of 15.27m/50-01.25. Then in the high jump, McRoberts tied for the top spot, clearing 2.08m/06-09.75 then was declared the winner after a jump off.
Alivia Ash gave the Cardinals another sweep in the high jump. She cleared 1.75m/05-08.75 for the win. Morgan Zacharias picked up her first win of the season in pole vault with a mark of 4.11m/13-05.75.
Anthony Crandon clocked in a 48.30 to take the top spot in the 400m dash. Aurilla Wilson finished with a personal-best time of 2:16.08 for the win in the 800m. Ivine Chemutai and Emmanuel Cheboson each earned the win in 3,000m. Chemutai finished with a time of 9:59.40 while Cheboson finished with a personal-best time of 8:39.55..
Abigail Wright's time of 7:21.64 earned her the win the 2,000m steeplechase. Martice Moore won the 110 meters a time of 14.53.
The Cardinals return to Houston next Friday and Saturday for the Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice University.
