The sophomore fired a 6-under-par 138 to sit in a tie for the lead after two rounds.
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- University of Louisville's Matthias Schmid fired a 6-under-par 138 to lead the Cardinals' men's golf team to a tie for the lead after 36 holes of play Sunday at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at the Sawgrass Country Club.

Louisville carded an 8-over par 280 in the first round on Sunday morning, then struggled and an fired an 8-over-par 296 in the afternoon tie sit in a tie with North Carolina for the lead after two rounds, just three shots ahead of North Florida. The Cardinals and Tar Heels both shot an even-par 576.

Schmid and Clemson's Bryson Nimmer are tied for first in the individual standings at 138 (-6). Schmid raced off to a fast start collecting 10 birdies in the first round of action, including scoring on six of the first nine holes. He took a step backward in the second round by shooting a 1-over-par 73.

Third-round play is scheduled for Monday. Louisville is paired with North Carolina and North Florida with tee times beginning at 9:10 a.m.
Two Cardinals are tied for 15th place after shooting a 1-over-par 145. Jiri Zuska shot an opening round 69, but came back in the afternoon to card a 76 to finish with a 145. John Murphy matched his teammates 145 by firing a 71-74=145.
Devin Morley and Simon Zach are tied for 43rd place after shooting a 6-over-par 150.
