Cards Travel to Boston College and Host Purdue, Austin Peay This Weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team is set for three weekend matches, starting with an ACC contest on the road against Boston College on Friday and concluding with a Sunday doubleheader versus Purdue and Austin Peay at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Louisville will meet Boston College at 5 p.m. on Friday evening. Sunday's doubleheader will begin with Purdue at 12 p.m., followed by Austin Peay at 6 p.m.

"This will be a mental and physical test for us this weekend," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Boston College is one of the most improved teams in the conference. We have won all five matches against them, so they will be very motivated Friday night. We fly back Saturday to practice. Then Sunday we play a good Purdue team who we have beaten the last two times, but were both close matches. Then end the weekend against Austin Peay whose No. 1 player made the LIT singles finals. We will need to use more than the normal playing rotation for this challenge."

About Louisville Men's Tennis
The Cardinals (6-3, 0-1 ACC) enter the weekend following a 6-1 loss to Oregon on the road. In doubles, Federico Gomez and Alex Wesbrooks won 6-3 over Thomas Laurent and Emmanuel Coste on court three, the Ducks' No. 1 and No. 2 singles players. Gomez recorded the lone singles win in a 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 decision over Riki Oshima at No. 4.

Freshman Sergio Hernandez Ramirez holds the Cards' top dual match singles record at 6-1 from No. 4 and No. 5. David Mizrahi has also had a strong debut for Louisville with a 6-2 mark on court six.

In doubles, Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Fabien Salle have the Cards' top record at 4-3, including a 3-3 mark at No. 1.

Boston College
Series Record: Louisville leads 5-0.
Last Meeting: March 18, 2018 – The Cardinals won 6-1 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Scouting the Eagles: Boston College (4-3, 0-2) most recently blanked Merrimack 7-0 at home, snapping a two match losing streak against Notre Dame and Boston College. In doubles, the Eagles are led by Gereon Heitmann and Max Palmer with a 6-2 record at No. 2. Heitmann also leads in singles with a 7-3 mark at No.1 and No. 2.

Purdue
Series Record: Purdue leads 6-2.
Last Meeting: Jan. 20, 2018 – Louisville won 4-2 in West Lafayette, Ind.
Scouting the Boilermakers: Purdue (4-2) is coming off a 5-2 loss to Northwestern in their Big Ten opener. Through their first six matches of the season, the Boilermakers have victories over Toledo, IUPUI, Marquette and Green Bay. Athell Bennett is Purdue's top-ranked player at No. 108 and holds a 4-1 singles record.

Austin Peay
Series Record: Louisville leads 10-1.
Last Meeting: February 4, 2018 – The Cardinals won 7-0 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Scouting the Governors: Last time out, Austin Peay (1-5) fell 4-3 to IUPUI at home. The Governors lone win of the season came was a 6-1 victory over Cumberland, breaking a streak of four straight losses to start the season. In doubles, Anton Damberg and Almantas Ozelis have two wins at No. 1, while Ozelis has three wins at No.1 singles.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 21 for a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky (12 p.m.) and Xavier (6 p.m.) at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Admission is free.
