
Aiko Jones Named AVCA HM All-American

Jones led the Cardinals to their first ever Elite Eight Appearance
University of Louisville opposite Aiko Jones has been named AVCA All-American Honorable mention as a part of the 39th annual AVCA Division I All-America Teams for women's volleyball.
The awards will be presented December 20th in Pittsburgh, Pa. at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet Presented by the NVA. The event is held in conjunction with the 2019 AVCA Convention.as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Jones led the Cardinals to its best finish ever in the NCAA Championship, when Louisville advanced to the Elite Eight after pulling arguably the biggest upset in tournament history, with a 3-2 win over No. 2-seeded Texas in Austin. UofL, an at-large selection from the ACC, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen after beating Samford in the first round and upsetting intrastate rival Western Kentucky to advance to the Austin Regional.

The Kingston, Jamaica native scored 86.5 points in the four tournament matches, 40 more than the next Cardinal. She averaged 4.56 kills per set, notched seven aces, 21 digs and 12 blocks.

#15 Aiko Jones: (pronounced EYE-koh) Stepped into a starting role immediately and took over as the offensive workhorse for the Cards especially after the loss of Melanie McHenry ... Had a then career-high 20 kills at Miami and 19 at Virginia Tech ... hit .722 against ACC runnerup Georgia Tech (13-0-18) and 18 versus both BC and Syracuse ... Played for Jamaican Junior National Team ... Learned to play volleyball outside on asphalt court ... Threw javelin and shot put as track athlete as well ...
