Cardinals Fall to No. 3 Pitt

Anna Stevenson notches eight blocks
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Amber Stivrins led the University of Louisville with 10 kills, but her efforts were not enough as the Cardinals fell to No. 3 Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. The Panthers won 25-21, 25-22, and 25-20.

The Cardinals (15-5, 8-2) hit .146 with 13 blocks. The Panthers move to 21-1 and remain undefeated in ACC action at 10-0, hit .255 with four aces with Kayla Lund leading the team with 11 kills.

Benefitting from five Pitt service errors, the Cardinals also went on a 4-0 run early in the first game to go up 7-5. The Cardinals stayed close but a 5-2 run by the Panthers put them up 21-17 on a kill by Sabrina Starks. The Cardinals came as close as two points at 22-20 on a block by Aiko Jones. A kill by Stivrins took the Cards to 23-21 but A kill by Kayla Young and Chinaza Ndee gave Pitt the 25-21 win. Â UofL hit just .087 but did have five blocks. Pitt hit .273 and recorded two blocks. Â

Pitt had five unanswered points early in the second set to go up 6-2, but the Cardinals regained their momentum and tied at 10 on an error by Chinaza Ndee. From there, it was back-and-forth between the Cardinals and the Panthers with eight ties but only the one lead change. Tied at 21 on a kill by Stivrins, the Cards would be outscored 4-1 down the stretch to the 25-22 loss. Stivrins and Claire Chaussee each had three kills and Anna Stevenson had three of UofL's five blocks. Pitt jumped out to a quick lead in the third set, but the Cardinals took the lead at 5-4 on a service error by Pitt. Down just two points at 21-19 on a Stevenson block but were outscored 4-1 at the end. Â Stivrins registered four more kills in the third set, while Chaussee and Stevenson each had three. Pitt completed the sweep by claiming the third set 25-20.

The Cardinals start a four-match road stretch on Friday, Nov. 1 as they take on Boston College at Power Gym for a 7:30 p.m. match.
