Junior runner adds to list of accolades from historic 2018 season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a historic campaign on the course, University of Louisville junior Dorcas Wasike has been named the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year for her performance in the classroom.
Wasike adds Thursday's honor to her other accolades from the 2018 season, having previously been named the ACC Women's Runner of the Year by the league's head coaches in December. The junior from Kitale, Kenya earned All-America honors for the second-consecutive season by placing 14th at the NCAA Championships with a 6K time of 20:08.2. Earlier in the season, she took first place at both the ACC Championships and NCAA Southeast Regionals, finishing the year with five individual victories. Wasike became the first Louisville female athlete to earn an ACC individual cross country championship and USTFCCCA Regional Athlete of the Year honors.
Wasike, who is majoring in nursing, has been named to the UofL Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll for each of the last two semesters. She was also named a Red and Black Scholar, reserved for UofL student-athletes who achieve a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
In addition to Wasike, redshirt senior Chandler Austin was named to Men's All-ACC Academic Team. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
