LOUISVILLE, Ky. – In preparation for the upcoming spring season, head coach Derek Copeland and senior coxswain Perie Howard represented the University of Louisville rowing team at the UofL Spring Sports Media Day Monday afternoon at the Planet Fitness Kueber Center.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE ROWING
The Cardinals return 27 members from last season's squad, highlighted by sophomore Violette Legrand, who was named ACC Freshman of the Year and earned All-ACC Second Team and CRCA Division I All-Conference honors. In the ACC Championships at Clemson, the varsity eight crew earned the bronze medal, their best finish as a conference member. In the overall standings, the Cards finished fifth with 66 points, their second most in ACC competition, with all five crews advancing to their respective grand finals. The Cardinals finished the 2018 campaign ranked No. 20 in the final US Rowing/CRCA coaches' poll.
UofL competed in three fall events, beginning with their second-consecutive appearance at the prestigious Head of the Charles in Boston. The championship eight boat placed 24th overall while the club eight crew posted an 11th-place finish. At the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, the varsity eight crew was victorious for the third-straight year, prevailing with a time of 14:59.871, besting the previous year's winning time by over a minute. The Cards also took first in the championship four race with a time of 16:24.491. The fall season wrapped up with a third-place finish at the Rivanna Romp as the varsity eight finished behind two boats from hosting Virginia.
Following a scrimmage with UCF and Tennessee in Orlando in February, the Cards open their competition season by hosting the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on March 16-17 in Oak Ridge, Tenn. In April, the team will return to Florida for the Sunshine State Invitational on April 5-6 in Sarasota, followed by the Clemson Invitational on April 19-20. The season concludes in May with a dual meet against Michigan and Michigan State on May 5 and the ACC Championship on May 18 at Clemson.
