Cardinals Represented on USA Field Hockey National Teams

Taylor Stone, Katie Walsh, McCrudden named to Development Squad, Carter Ayars, Meghan Schneider on U21 squad, Katie Schneider on U19 squad
Six current or former University of Louisville field hockey student-athletes have been selected to USA Field Hockey national squads. Carter Ayars and Meghan Schneider were named to the Under-21 team while Katie Schneider was selected to the Under-19 team. Additionally, 2018 seniors Taylor Stone and Katie Walsh as well as 2016 senior Erin McCrudden were picked for the U.S. Women's National Development Squad.

Stone (Herndon, Va.) is a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association and all-ACC selection (2017, 2018), earning her most recent nods after starting all 19 games for the Cardinals. The defender/midfielder finished her senior season tied for third on the team with five goals.

Walsh (Louisville, Ky.) started all 19 games during her senior season and led the Cardinals with a career-high 11 assists.
Stone and Walsh were also named to the U.S. Development Team in July 2018. Stone was a member of the U21 team and the U19 team for two years apiece.

McCrudden (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) completed her senior season at UofL in 2016 and earned NFHCA All-America honors that year. She was named to the U.S. Women's National Development Squad in 2016 and went on to earn a spot on the U.S. Women's National Team and competed in 13 international caps.

Ayars, (Wilmington, Del.) is a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-West Region selection and was named to the ACC Field Hockey Championship all-tournament team in 2017. The defender started 17 games in 2018 and anchored the Cardinals' defense which produced five shutouts and a 1.27 team goals-against average.

Meghan Schneider (San Diego, Calif.), previously spent two years as a member of USA Field Hockey U19 team. The sophomore started every game this past season and scored her first career goal when she delivered the gamewinner against UMass Lowell. She was a valuable part of the defense with registered five shutouts and held opponents to a 1.27 goals-against average.
Ayars and Meghan Schneider are both entering their second stints with the U21 squad after being initially selected in July 2018.
Katie Schneider (San Diego, Calif.) had been previously selected to participate in USA Field Hockey's U19 and U17 Junior National Camps. As a freshman at UofL, the forward played in 19 games and three starts and scored four goals.
About the U.S. Women's National Development Squad
• Those named to the U.S. Women's National Development Squad were selected through the 2018 Young Women's National Championship route or as a result of their performances at the USWNT Trial last week, where athletes were recommended by their college coach, competed for a rostered spot within the Olympic Development Pipeline.

• The U.S. Women's National Development will have one training camp in February and two in March as they prepare for their international tour to The Netherlands from April 13-22. There they will compete against the Scotland Women's National Team and Belgium's U-21 Team.

About the U-21 USWNT
• Athletes for the U-21 USWNT were selected from the 2018 Young Women's National Championship in June for further evaluation at last summer's Junior National Camp and at the December and January training camps. The U.S. U-21 Women's National Team will meet three times in the next two months for training camps in preparation for their international tour to Germany from April 14-22. In Monchengladbach, the U-21 USWNT will take on Germany's U-21 Team and Great Britain's U-21 Team.

The initial selection of athletes to participate in the selection camp were chosen from 2018 Junior National Camp which followed the 2018 Citi National Futures Championship, presented by Harrow Sports. The squad will take part in three additional training camps over the next several weeks to prepare for its Germany tour. The U-19 USWNT will travel to Dusseldorf to take on Germany's U-18 Team and Belgium's U-18 Team. Additionally, for the first time, the U-19 USWNT will take part in the Young Women's National Championships from June 14-18, 2019.
