Senior midfielder was the 39th pick overall while becoming the 22nd Louisville player selected in MLS SuperDraft
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville senior midfielder Adam Wilson was selected 39th overall by Toronto FC in the second round of the 2019 Major League Soccer SuperDraft on Friday afternoon in Chicago.
Wilson closed his collegiate career by scoring four goals, including two game-winners, with three assists in 19 matches during his final season in 2018. In his first season with the Cardinals in 2017, Wilson scored one goal and added six assists in 17 starts for the Cardinals. Prior to arriving at UofL, Wilson played two seasons at the University of Cincinnati, where he scored seven goals with 18 assists in 31 starts and appearing in 36 matches overall for the Bearcats. A native of Auchterarder, Scotland, Wilson was named 2016 American Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Year and was an All-American Conference First Team honoree that season.
Last week, UofL senior forward Tate Schmitt signed an MLS homegrown contract with Real Salt Lake. Schmitt, who completed his four-year collegiate career with the Cardinals in November, has join RSL's roster for the 2019 season.
Overall, 22 players from UofL have been chosen in the MLS SuperDraft all-time, including seven in the last three seasons. Along with the SuperDraft selections, four Cardinals have signed homegrown contracts all-time.
Louisville ended its season with an 11-5-3 record overall and ranked 16th in the final United Soccer Coaches poll following a second round loss to Michigan State in the 2018 NCAA Championship. The 2018 season was a successful one for the Cardinals, who earned the program's first ACC Championship title with victories over Notre Dame, Wake Forest and North Carolina in a span of eight days.
