Louisville joins 19 other programs at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams remain home this weekend for the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park. The meet will begin with the men's 8K race at 9:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5K race at 10:15 a.m.
In the men's race, the Cardinals will compete against 19 other programs, including one nationally-ranked squad in No. 19 Middle Tennessee State. The Cards enter this weekend ranked No. 14 in the Southeast region and will be joined by eight regionally-ranked squads. The men's team will look to carry over its momentum from a strong outing two weeks ago at the Commodore Classic in Nashville. Freshman Emmanuel Cheboson earned ACC Freshman Performer of the Week honors as he placed second in the 8K with a time of 24:41.9. Bolstered by top-20 finishes from senior Chandler Austin and sophomore Albert Kosgei, the Cards posted a second-place finish in the overall standings.
On the women's side, the Cards will look to bounce back from a ninth-place finish at Vanderbilt as they face off against 19 programs. Like the men, they enter the meet ranked No. 14 in the Southeast region and will be joined by five regionally-ranked sides, including national No. 10 Michigan. Two weeks ago, junior Dorcas Wasike earned her second ACC Performer of the Week award this season with a 5K victory, turning in a time of 17:09.4. Saturday's race will be Wasike's fourth run at Sawyer Park, where she has finished in the top 20 each time, highlighted by a runner-up performance at the 2017 ACC Championships.
