Matthias Schmid is 11-under-par after two rounds
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Matthias Schmid fired an 11-under-par to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team to second at the Old Town Club Collegiate after the opening two rounds on Monday.
The Cardinals shot a 273 (-7) in the morning's opening round, followed by a 268 (-12) in the second round, to sit four shots behind Wake Forest, which leads the way at 23-under-par.
Schmid posted his best two rounds of his career, firing a 5-under-par 65 in the first round and finished one shot better in the afternoon with a 6-under-par 64.
The Maxhvette, Germany, native is one shot behind Wake Forest's Eric Bae, who fired back-to-back-rounds of 64 to lead the field.
John Murphy is also in the top 10 after two rounds, shooting a 4-under-par 69-67=136 and is seven shots off the lead. Jiri Zuska is tied for 12th after his opening rounds of 69-68=137, while Devin Morley sits in a tie for 22nd after his rounds of 1-under-par.
Simon Zach rounded out the top five by firing a 4-over-par 75-69=144 to stand in a tie for 49th.
The Cardinals will begin play for the final round at 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
