Wasike named Women's Performer of the Week and Chebson named Freshman of the Week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Wednesday that the University of Louisville cross country teams have received two weekly honors for the third week of the 2018 season. For the second time this season, junior Dorcas Wasike was named the ACC Cross Country Women's Performer of the Week, while freshman Emmanuel Cheboson was named the ACC Men's Freshman Performer of the Week.
For Wasike, this is the second award of the week, following Monday's USTFCCCA Division I Women's Performer of the Week honor. This is the fourth ACC weekly honor she has received in her career. Last week at the Commodore Classic, Wasike earned her first career multi-event victory as she took first in the 5K with a time of 17:09.4. With an average mile time of 5:31.0, she has opened 2018 with back-to-back wins.
Cheboson's accolade is the first of his Louisville career, following a runner-up performance at Vanderbilt. In his first collegiate 8K, he turned in a time of 24:41.9, helping the Cardinals take second in the overall standings. Cheboson spent much of the race at the front of the pack, leading the field at the three-mile mark, eventually finishing with an average mile of 4:58.2.
